Lukes Blog – Part 1
Hello! My name is Luke Vosper and I will be starting a weekly blog in which I take you along in my journey to become a Commercial Airline Pilot through training with Aviation South West based at Exeter International Airport on their DCT Program.
Gaining a Private Pilots License
I started my journey on the 10th June just three weeks ago and I am absolutely loving it so far. At the moment I am working towards my Private Pilots Licence. For this first instalment, I thought I would discuss how I got the flying bug and how I got into aviation. I have always been interested in travel since I can remember. When I lived in Weston Super-Mare, my parents used to take me up to Bristol International Airport to watch the planes take off and land. I absolutely loved watching them.
When we moved back to Devon we used to regularly visit the viewing terrace at Exeter airport, when members of the public were able to access it without going through security. Unfortunately, now the viewing terrace is only accessible through the departures lounge for departing passengers.
Two years ago back in 2017 I had a 45 minute trial flight in a Cessna 172 at Dunkeswell given to me for Christmas by my parents. It is safe to say this is where I set my mind on becoming a pilot. The flight took us over our house and Taunton where I took the controls of a plane for the first time.
We carried out in-depth research on the possible ways of fulfilling my dreams and Aviation South West ticked all of the boxes for me.
