Commercial Pilot Licence

Introduction

A CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence) is the professional qualification for a pilot to be able to fly as pilot-in-command (PIC) and to carry passengers for remuneration to then ultimately gain employment. To obtain a CPL you must undergo an approved course with an approved training organisation such as ourselves. Aviation South West are approved by the UK CAA and Transport Malta (EASA).

 

Pre-Requisites

Before starting this course we require:

  • 150 hours total time

  • ICAO Level 4 or higher

  • Passed CPL or ATPL theoretical knowledge exams with the relevant authority

  • A Class 1 medical for the relevant authority

  • Completed a 300nm cross country navigation with at least 2 land-aways

  • Completed an MEP Class Rating course, should you wish to do a Multi-Engine CPL

 

The Course

The approved course has minimum set requirements as set out by law but may require going beyond these to meet standards to safety pass the skills test assessments. The minimum course criteria before your skills test are:

  • 25 hours total time

    • Of which 10 hours of instrument flying

    • 15 hours of visual flying

    • Minimum 5 hours flying in a complex aircraft

  • Meet standards to pass the Skills Test check flight in said complex aircraft

 

Test Requirements

  • 200 hours total time

    • Of which 100 hours as PIC

    • 20 hours of cross-country flight as PIC
