Introduction
An MEP (Multi-Engine Piston Rating) is a class rating to attach onto a pilot’s licence to allow them to fly a multi engine piston aircraft as pilot in command (PIC). More commonly it is to meet a pre-requisite so the pilot can begin training for a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating. To obtain an MEP you must undergo an approved course with an approved training organisation such as ourselves. Aviation South West are approved by the UK CAA and Transport Malta (EASA).
Pre-Requisites
Before starting this course we require:
You are fit and able to gain a minimum Class 2 medical
You have the ability to speak and read the English Language at an ICAO Level 4 (Operational) standard. An English Language assessment can be done at an approved provider
Minimum of a PPL
70 hours pilot in command (PIC)
The Course
The approved course has minimum set requirements as set out by law but may require going beyond these to meet standards to safety pass the skills test assessments. The minimum course criteria before your skills test are:
7 hours ground school
6 hours flight time in a multi engine piston aircraft of which
3.5 hours asymmetric flying
2.5 hours normal flying
Pass an in-house MEP ground theory exam
Meet standards to pass the Skills Test check flight
